Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek, *Hosta* 'Filagree' is a sport of an unnamed parent, notable for its large, blue-green leaves with golden yellow splotching margins and a glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The ovate, moderately corrugated foliage measures up to 12 inches (30.5 cm) long and 9 inches (22.9 cm) wide, with 14 to 16 pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'Filagree' forms a substantial mound 24 inches (61.0 cm) tall and 50 inches (127.0 cm) in diameter, making it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green centers contrast with the gold margins. Companion plants include ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its large size precludes container cultivation.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release formulation. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and manage as needed.
