Overview
Registered in 1989 by J. Wilkins and C. Owens, *Hosta* 'Fascinator' is a medium-sized sport of *Hosta* 'Golden Fascination'. The cultivar is visually distinctive for its golden yellow leaf centers with a 1‑inch (2.5 cm) wide green margin, a color pattern that reverses the typical gold‑margined hosta arrangement.
In the Garden
'Hosta' forms a clump 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter and 14 inches (35.6 cm) tall, with leaves 7.5 inches (19.1 cm) long and 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold centers remain bright without scorching. The 24‑ to 30‑inch (61.0–76.2 cm) scapes bear lavender flowers in midsummer. Suitable companions include ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade‑tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it appropriate for border fronts, woodland gardens, or mixed containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so site accordingly in typical hosta‑growing zones.
