Overview

Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Farewell Party' is a large cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Gold Regal' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Mesa Fringe' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with bright golden yellow margins, forming a semi-upright mound that is notably brighter in overall coloration than its pod parent.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a substantial clump reaching 45 inches (114.3 cm) in diameter and 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas, though the golden margins may develop more intense coloration with some morning sun. The large, ovate leaves with rounded bases, light corrugation, and golden yellow flat margins make it suitable as a specimen plant or for mid-border placement in shade gardens, where it pairs well with ferns and other shade perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate control measures.
