Overview

Registered in 2009 by the American Hosta Society (registrant K. Walek), *Hosta* 'Ewa Yoto Moto' is a small, mound-forming hybrid derived from *H. 'Tardiflora'* (pod parent) and *H. rupifraga* (pollen parent). The cultivar is visually distinctive for its variegated foliage, featuring dark green margins and a lighter center, with leaves that are ovate, shiny on the undersides, and bear seven pairs of veins.

In the Garden

This compact hosta reaches approximately 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height and spreads to 29 inches (73.7 cm) in diameter, forming a dense, mound-like clump. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is well-suited for small garden spaces, rock gardens, or container cultivation due to its small size class. Companion plants might include ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its low, mounding habit.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate protective measures should be considered in areas where these pests are prevalent.
