Overview

Registered in 1988 by R. Savory, this large hosta is a sport of *Hosta* 'Piedmont Gold'. It is visually distinctive for its green leaf centers bordered by golden yellow margins, a color pattern that reverses the typical gold-centered, green-margined appearance of its parent.

In the Garden

*Hosta* 'Everglades' forms a substantial clump reaching 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in height, with individual leaves measuring 10.5 inches (26.7 cm) long by 9 inches (22.9 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins remain brightest, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size makes it unsuitable for containers and best used as a specimen or in mixed border plantings.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges; this cultivar shows typical hosta slug resistance but may still require protection in damp conditions.
