Overview

Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Evening Gown' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. montana* 'Chirifu' (pod parent) and *H. venusta* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its medium green, broadly ovate leaves with wide, creamy white, flat margins and an upright growth habit.

In the Garden

'Evening Gown' reaches a mature height of 12 inches (30.5 cm) and spreads to 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as an edging plant. Its upright habit and medium-fast growth rate allow it to integrate well with other small perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*, and it is appropriate for container culture given its compact size. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas.
