Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Endearing Endeavor' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Breeder's Choice'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Blue Jay'* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with wide, irregular yellow to cream margins that often display two to three overlapping colors, and for its folded, tapered leaf base that resembles a heart.
In the Garden
'Endearing Endeavor' forms a mound-like clump reaching 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter and 9 inches (22.9 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hostas, and its substantial leaf substance makes it suitable for woodland gardens, shade borders, or as a specimen in mixed containers. The glaucous bloom on the leaf undersides and the lightly twisted, folded, and wavy leaf margins add textural interest alongside companions such as ferns or astilbes.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The heavy leaf substance offers some resistance to slugs, though standard slug control measures are advisable in damp conditions; deer may browse the foliage.
