Overview
Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Golden Tiara', 'Emerald Scepter' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its yellow leaves edged with narrow, light green, slightly rippled margins. The foliage is notably lighter in color than that of the related cultivar 'Emerald Tiara', with dull surfaces above and below.
In the Garden
'Emerald Scepter' reaches approximately 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and spreads to 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, forming a moderate-growing, compact mound. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for hostas, and its small stature makes it well suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants such as small ferns, heucheras, or low-growing sedges complement its muted yellow-green palette.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Emerald Scepter' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate management may be necessary in affected gardens.
