Overview
Registered in 2008 by P. & J. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Emerald Isle' is a miniature cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its small, lance-shaped leaves with light greenish-yellow centers and white, flat margins that extend up the petiole, and for its pure white flowers.
In the Garden
This miniature hosta forms a compact, slow-growing mound 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) tall and 13 inches (33.0 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with other small perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*. Its small size also makes it an excellent choice for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While typical hosta-growing zones apply, the small leaf size may make it less appealing to slugs and deer than larger-leaved cultivars, though standard precautions are still advisable.
