Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Dream Boat' is an open-pollinated seedling of *H. nigrescens*. Its most distinctive feature is the pronounced cupping of its elongated, ovate leaves, which, combined with a glaucous bloom on the undersides, creates a boat-like appearance.
In the Garden
This large cultivar reaches 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and spreads to 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its substantial blue-green foliage provides a strong textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, glaucous leaves offer moderate resistance to slugs, though standard preventive measures are advisable in damp conditions.
