Overview
Registered in 2012 by D. Beilstein and M. Zilis, 'Dragon of the Seas' is a stabilized sport of a seedling derived from *Hosta* 'Sea Prize' and *Hosta* 'Komodo Dragon'. This medium-sized cultivar is distinguished by its blue-green leaves with white, flat margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
'Dragon of the Seas' forms a mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, corrugated leaves provide moderate resistance to slugs, though monitoring is advisable in damp conditions. Deer may browse foliage in areas where they are prevalent.
