Overview
Registered in 2016, *Hosta* 'Dr Topper Hagerman' is a large, mound-forming cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Great Expectations' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Sagae' (pollen parent). Its most distinctive feature is the heavy glaucous bloom on both leaf surfaces, which produces an intense blue-green coloration on nearly round, cordate-based foliage.
In the Garden
'Dr Topper Hagerman' reaches 24 inches (61 cm) in height and 40 inches (102 cm) in diameter at maturity, forming a dense, upright mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the glaucous bloom is most pronounced. The substantial leaves and bold form make it suitable as a specimen or in mass plantings with fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, glaucous leaves offer moderate slug resistance, though standard slug control measures may be needed in wet seasons; deer will browse this cultivar as they will most hostas.
