Overview
Registered in 2000 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Dionysos' is a small, variegated cultivar distinguished by its medium green leaves with slightly rippled margins and cordate (heart-shaped) bases. The foliage displays 8 to 9 pairs of veins and reaches 5 inches (12.7 cm) in length by 4 inches (10.2 cm) in width.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 25 inches (63.5 cm) and height of 15 inches (38.1 cm), 'Dionysos' forms an upright, moderate-growing clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It thrives in partial to dappled shade typical of hosta-growing zones and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or dwarf astilbes. Its compact habit makes it an excellent choice for troughs or mixed shade containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like most hostas, 'Dionysos' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor foliage regularly and apply barriers or repellents as needed.
