Overview
Registered in 2014, *Hosta* 'Deep Waters' is a large, vase-shaped cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue-green, heavily corrugated foliage with deeply impressed veins and a silvery glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The nearly round, cordate leaves are deeply cupped, moderately twisted and folded, with slightly rippled margins that create a carved, shell-like appearance.
In the Garden
'Deep Waters' forms an upright clump reaching 27 inches (68.6 cm) in height and 47 inches (119.4 cm) in diameter, with blue-green scapes rising 24 to 28 inches (61.0 to 71.1 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade with consistent moisture, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its bold texture and silvery blue tones. Its moderate growth rate and substantial size make it suitable as a specimen or accent in woodland borders and shade gardens.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While hostas are generally susceptible to slugs and deer, the heavily corrugated, glaucous foliage of 'Deep Waters' may offer some resistance to slug damage.
