Overview
Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Deane's Dream' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Blue Arrow' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Sea Fire' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green leaves with slightly rippled margins and a prominent glaucous bloom on both surfaces, combined with upright blue scapes.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a moderate-growing clump reaching 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height. Its blue-green foliage with cordate leaf bases and 8 to 9 pairs of veins performs best in partial to full shade, where the glaucous bloom is most pronounced. It pairs well with other blue-leaved hostas or contrasting gold-foliaged varieties such as *H.* 'Sum and Substance' and is suitable for shaded borders or woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor foliage regularly and apply controls if needed. Typical hosta-growing zones apply.
