Overview
Registered in 1998 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Sea Dream', 'Day Dream' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with yellow-gold margins. The foliage exhibits slightly rippled margins and a slight gloss on both surfaces, with leaves measuring 8 inches (20.3 cm) long and 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, bearing seven to nine vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Day Dream' forms a mound-like clump reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold margins remain brightest, and is suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees. Its medium size makes it adaptable to mixed perennial beds, though it is not typically recommended for container culture due to its spreading habit.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Day Dream' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
