Overview
Registered in 2000, this miniature hosta resulted from a cross between *H.* 'Neat Splash' and *H.* 'Halcyon'. The cultivar is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with medium green splashes and slightly rippled margins, combined with a compact, slow-growing mound form.
In the Garden
'Cubby Bear' reaches approximately 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) in diameter and 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) in height, forming a dense, slow-growing mound. Its miniature size and glaucous reddish-green scapes make it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. It pairs well with other small perennials such as heucheras or ferns in partial to full shade.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. The thick, glaucous leaves offer some resistance to slugs, though monitoring is advisable in damp conditions. Deer may browse the foliage.
