H. ‘Crystal Moon’

Overview

A sport of an unnamed parent, *Hosta* 'Crystal Moon' was registered in 2002 and is classified as a medium-sized cultivar. Its distinguishing features are light green, broadly ovate leaves with a 1.3 cm (0.5 in) wide, creamy white margin and a slightly shiny upper surface, complemented by notably large, fragrant flowers.

In the Garden

'Crystal Moon' reaches a mature size typical of medium hostas, with leaves 19.1 cm (7.5 in) long and 15.2 cm (6 in) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the creamy white margins remain distinct without scorching. The fragrant, 7.6 cm (3 in) diameter flowers add late-season interest, making it suitable for placement near pathways or seating areas. It combines well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hosta cultivars.
