Overview
Registered in 2012, 'Cosmic Moonshine' is a large hosta cultivar originating from a cross between *H.* 'Outrageous' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Blue Belly' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with creamy yellow, slightly rippled margins and a prominent glaucous bloom on both leaf surfaces.
In the Garden
'Cosmic Moonshine' forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching 26 inches (66.0 cm) in height and 46 inches (116.8 cm) in diameter. Its broadly ovate, cordate-based leaves measure 11 inches (27.9 cm) long by 9 inches (22.9 cm) wide, with 12 to 14 vein pairs and a lightly wavy, moderately corrugated texture. The scapes rise 30 to 32 inches (76.2 to 81.3 cm) and bear light lavender flowers. This cultivar performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges; slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed as needed.
