Overview

Registered in 2015, this large hosta cultivar was developed from a cross of *H.* 'Fudge Ripple' and (*H.* 'Blue Belly' × *H.* 'Bodacious Blue'). *Hosta* 'Cosmic Moon' is distinguished by its intensely blue-green, broadly ovate leaves with slightly rippled margins, a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, and a notable ability to retain its blue coloration throughout the growing season.

*Hosta* 'Cosmic Moon' forms an upright mound reaching 23 inches (58.4 cm) in height and 38 inches (96.5 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage remains most vibrant. The substantial leaf size and blue tones pair well with golden or chartreuse-foliaged perennials such as *Hakonechloa macra* 'Aureola' or *Carex* 'Evergold', and it provides effective ground cover beneath deciduous trees.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, and protection may be required in areas where these pests are prevalent.
