Overview
Registered in 2013, *Hosta* 'Cosmic Dreamer' is a large, mound-forming cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Cosmic Fantasy' and *H.* 'Blue Belly', with *H.* 'Geneva Remembrance' as the pollen parent. Its most distinctive feature is the highly variegated leaf, which displays streaked patterns of dark green, medium blue-green, golden yellow, greenish white, creamy white, and pure white in flat margins against a blue-green ground.
In the Garden
'Cosmic Dreamer' reaches a mature diameter of 38 inches (96.5 cm) and a height of 22 inches (55.9 cm), forming a moderate-growing, dense mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its large, broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases and slight twisting add textural interest. The green scapes, reaching 28 to 36 inches (71.1 to 91.4 cm), bear pale flowers in midsummer; this cultivar pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials but is not suited for container culture due to its size.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the broad, variegated leaves are attractive to both pests.
