Overview
Registered in 1982 by Paul Aden, this medium-sized hosta results from a cross between *H.* 'Vicky Aden' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Fascination' (pollen parent). *Hosta* 'Comeuppance' is visually distinguished by its green leaves with yellow-streaked gold margins, a characteristic inherited from its parentage.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a rounded clump reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter at maturity. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The medium size makes it suitable for border fronts or mass plantings in woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season to establish a deep root system. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like many hostas, 'Comeuppance' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitoring and protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
