Overview

Registered in 2011 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Anne', 'Colored Hulk' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its stable, light green leaf centers bordered by dark green, slightly rippled margins. The broadly ovate, moderately cupped leaves measure 6.3 inches (16.0 cm) long and 4.7 inches (11.9 cm) wide, with nine pairs of veins; the upper surface is slightly shiny, while the underside is dull.

'Colored Hulk' reaches a mature diameter of 27.6 inches (70.1 cm) and a height of 13.8 inches (35.1 cm), forming a compact mound with a moderate growth rate. It is notably sun resistant and performs well in partial to full shade, making it suitable for border fronts, rock gardens, or container cultivation. Its small size and variegated foliage pair effectively with fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release formulation. Like most hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its thick leaf texture offers some resistance.
