Overview

Registered in 2007 as a self-pollinated seedling of *Hosta* 'Brenda's Choice', 'Clyde Crockett' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its medium blue-green leaf centers framed by wide, creamy white, serrated margins. The broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases and dull surfaces on both sides give this hosta a distinctive two-tone appearance.

In the Garden

'Clyde Crockett' forms a substantial mound 17 inches (43.2 cm) tall and 52 inches (132.1 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. Its blue-green centers and wide cream margins make it suitable for brightening shaded borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen plant in part shade to shade. The large leaf size and bold color contrast pair well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its size precludes container cultivation for most gardeners.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Clyde Crockett' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones; regular monitoring and appropriate controls may be necessary.
