Registered in 2008, *Hosta* 'Civil War' is a giant blue-green cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its exceptionally large, broadly ovate leaves with blue-gray flat margins, dull surfaces, and lightly wavy edges, combined with a notably fast growth rate.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature spread of 55 inches (139.7 cm) and a height of 30 inches (76.2 cm), with an upright habit. It performs well in full sun, unlike many hostas, and is suitable for typical hosta-growing zones. Its substantial size makes it a strong specimen for the back of borders or as a focal point in large shade gardens; companion plants should be chosen for contrasting foliage textures.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. While slugs may damage foliage, the thick leaves of this giant cultivar offer some resistance; deer browsing remains a potential concern.
