Overview
Registered in 1988 by W. & E. Lachman, this small hosta cultivar is distinguished by its narrow, lance-shaped leaves with medium green to gray-green centers and creamy white margins approximately 0.25 inches (0.6 cm) wide. The leaf blades reach 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) in length and 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) in width, with 4 to 5 vein pairs and slight marginal undulations.
In the Garden
Hosta 'Chantilly Lace' forms a compact mound 9 inches (22.9 cm) tall and 14 inches (35.6 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, and other miniature hostas. Its diminutive size also makes it an appropriate choice for trough gardens or fairy gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage and may require protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
