Overview
Registered in 1982 by K. Vaughn, this small hosta cultivar was developed from two unnamed Vaughn seedlings. 'Center Stage' is visually distinctive for its green leaves with creamy white margins, the margins often exhibiting green streaking that creates a variegated effect.
In the Garden
'Center Stage' reaches a mature size of 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, with leaves measuring 5 inches (12.7 cm) long and 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and is well-suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings due to its compact habit. The 18-inch (45.7 cm) scapes bear lavender flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage the foliage; monitor regularly and take control measures as needed. Deer resistance is typical for the genus.
