Overview

Registered in 2011, 'Celtic Bouquet' is a large variegated hosta derived from a complex cross involving *Liberty Bell*, *Urajiro Hachijo*, *pycnophylla*, *Whimsey*, *Party Favor*, and *Grand Slam*. Its most distinctive features are the nearly round, heavily corrugated leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins and a very shiny upper surface, combined with striking glaucous black-purple scapes and inflorescence leaves that display medium green with rose pink centers.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a flared mound-like clump reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 41 inches (104.1 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is best suited to partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its heavy substance and deep impressed veins provide good slug resistance. The substantial leaf size and bold texture make it an effective specimen or accent plant in mixed shade borders, though its large mature spread requires adequate spacing from neighboring perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during establishment and throughout the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While the heavy leaf substance offers some protection, monitor for slug and deer damage in vulnerable gardens.
