Overview
Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Bumblebee' is a large hybrid derived from *Hosta* 'Honey'. It is distinguished by its broad green leaves edged with golden yellow margins, a color pattern that gives the cultivar its common name.
In the Garden
This large hosta reaches mature dimensions of approximately 28 cm (11 in) in leaf length and 24 cm (9.5 in) in width, forming a substantial clump suitable for mid-border or specimen placement. It performs best in partial to light shade with consistent moisture, typical of hosta-growing zones. Companion plants that contrast with its gold-margined foliage include dark-leaved heucheras or ferns. Its size makes it unsuitable for small containers but appropriate for large patio pots.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like many large-leaved hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage accordingly.
