Overview

Registered in 2015 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Bubblicious' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its unusual leaf texture: the green leaves with gold margins are lightly cupped, twisted, and wavy, creating a distinctly bubbled or puckered appearance across the mound. The leaf surface is dull above and slightly shiny beneath, with yellow, slightly rippled margins and seven pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'Bubblicious' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 11 inches (27.9 cm) in height and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter, suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture given its small stature. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or fine-textured groundcovers that complement its compact form and gold-margined foliage. The yellow scapes, 15 to 16 inches (38.1 to 40.6 cm) tall, carry flowers above the leaves.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer exposures, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, protect new foliage from slugs and snails; deer may browse the leaves in some regions.
