Overview

Registered in 1988 by E. Smith and the British Hosta and Hemerocallis Society, 'Brother Ronald' is a small blue-green hosta from the *H.* Tardiana Group. Its compact, rounded clump of heavily textured leaves with distinct blue-green margins distinguishes it among small hostas.

In the Garden

'Brother Ronald' forms a dense mound 15 inches (38.1 cm) tall and 20 inches (50.8 cm) wide, with leaves 6 inches (15.2 cm) long and 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide bearing 11 vein pairs. It performs best in partial to full shade and is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its small stature makes it an excellent companion for other dwarf perennials such as heucheras or ferns, and it thrives in containers.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and use barriers or repellents as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
