Overview
Registered in 2013, *Hosta* 'Brocade' (pod parent *H.* 'Grand Slam', pollen parent unknown) is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its bright green leaves with greenish yellow, heavily rippled margins and a unique yellow coloration with a ruffle at the top of the petiole. The broadly ovate leaves are very shiny on the upper surface, slightly shiny beneath, and exhibit a combination of light cupping, twisting, folding, deep waviness, light corrugation, and a flat profile.
In the Garden
*Hosta* 'Brocade' forms a mound-like clump reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its moderate size suits it for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds. The shiny, variegated foliage pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
