Overview

Registered in 2009 by an unknown breeder, *Hosta* 'Bri Bear' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its dense clump of lance-shaped, variegated leaves with dark green, rippled margins and a slightly shiny upper surface. The plant reaches 5 inches (12.7 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate and rhizomatous habit.

In the Garden

'Bri Bear' is suitable for partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and forms a compact, dense mound ideal for edging borders or as a groundcover in small spaces. Its small size (under 6 inches tall) makes it an excellent candidate for container plantings or rock gardens. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, or other small shade perennials that contrast with its wavy green foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Bri Bear' may require protection from slugs and deer, particularly in moist, shaded settings.
