Overview

Registered in 2001, 'Break Dance' is a medium-sized sport distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins, where the green veins bleed into the lighter center, creating a mottled appearance that persists throughout the growing season. The leaves are elliptic with rounded bases, lightly corrugated, and measure 7 inches (17.8 cm) long by 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) wide, with seven vein pairs and dull surfaces both above and below.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for the middle of a border or as a specimen in a woodland garden.

Care Notes

Water regularly to keep soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
