Overview

Registered in 2016 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Ripple Effect', 'Bohemia Ripple Blue Effect' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its unusually wide, two-tone margins of intensely blue-green and green that frequently extend toward the leaf center. The leaf blade itself is greenish yellow, producing a tricolor effect against heavily rippled, glaucous foliage.

In the Garden

Mature plants form a compact, slow-growing mound 7.87 inches (20.0 cm) tall and 19.69 inches (50.0 cm) in diameter. For optimal contrast, site this cultivar where it receives some direct sun to brighten the yellow center; in full shade the center may appear greener. Its small stature and thick, slug-resistant leaves make it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or containers in typical hosta-growing zones. Pair with fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera* to complement its bold leaf form.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick foliage offers good resistance to slugs, though standard deer deterrents may be necessary in areas with heavy deer pressure.
