Hosta ‘Blue Tinge’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered2009
Section classIV-6a

Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Gum Drop' registered in 2009, 'Blue Tinge' is a small hosta distinguished by its blue-green leaf centers with gold margins. The foliage emerges with a hint of blue in spring, transitioning to a greenish yellow and medium blue-green combination in summer, with slightly rippled, broadly ovate leaves that are lightly twisted and corrugated.

In the Garden

'Blue Tinge' forms a dense, fast-growing mound reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its small size makes it suitable for rock gardens, woodland edges, or the front of shaded borders. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and small shade-tolerant perennials that complement its gold and blue-green variegation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, especially in the first growing season. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release formulation. While 'Blue Tinge' shows typical hosta resistance to deer, slug and snail damage may occur on new foliage and should be managed with appropriate controls in moist conditions.
