Overview
Registered in 2009 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Frost Giant', 'Blue Ridge' is a giant blue-green hosta distinguished by its substantial mound of broadly ovate, glaucous leaves. The foliage measures up to 12 inches long and 10 inches wide, with medium blue-green coloration, slightly rippled margins, and a prominent waxy bloom on both surfaces.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 66 inches (167.6 cm) and height of 28 inches (71.1 cm), 'Blue Ridge' forms a dense, mound-like clump suitable for large borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in partial to full shade. Its moderate growth rate and substantial leaf substance make it a reliable presence in typical hosta-growing zones, pairing well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The green scapes, reaching 38 to 45 inches (96.5 to 114.3 cm), carry pale lavender flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Blue Ridge' may require protection from slugs and deer in garden settings.
