Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek (AHS), *Hosta* 'Blue Nymph' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage distinguished by its blue-green foliage with distinctly rippled, medium green margins. The leaves display a glaucous bloom on the undersides and are narrowly ovate in shape, measuring 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) long by 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide with nine vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Blue Nymph' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height and 59 inches (149.9 cm) in diameter at maturity. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the glaucous bloom on the foliage is best preserved. The medium size and compact habit make it suitable for border fronts, shade gardens, or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees; it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Blue Nymph' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
