Overview
Registered in 2012, *Hosta* 'Blue Lettuce' is a large hybrid derived from a cross between *H.* 'Gold Regal' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Blue Vision' (pollen parent). The cultivar is visually distinctive for its unruly, broadly ovate blue-green leaves with cordate bases, very wavy margins, moderate corrugation, and cupped form; both leaf surfaces bear a glaucous bloom.
In the Garden
'Blue Lettuce' forms a mound-like clump reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 46 inches (116.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for blue-leaved hostas, and is well suited to woodland borders, shade gardens, or as a specimen in larger mixed plantings. Its substantial size and bold texture pair effectively with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Blue Lettuce' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and appropriate deterrents are recommended in areas where these pests are prevalent.
