H. ‘Blue June’

Overview

Registered in 1987 by R. Benedict, *Hosta* 'Blue June' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Blue Diamond' and a *H.* Tardiana Group hybrid. It is distinguished by its blue-green foliage with several undulating leaf margins and an elongated cordate base, producing a compact, mounded form.

In the Garden

'Blue June' performs best in partial to full shade, reaching a mature height of 12 inches (30.5 cm) and a spread of 15 inches (38.1 cm). Its medium size and tidy habit suit it for placement in the middle of shaded borders, rock gardens, or as edging along woodland paths. Companion plants include ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials with contrasting foliage textures.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable for this cultivar in typical hosta-growing zones.
