Overview
Registered in 2009 by W. Meyer, this small-sized sport of *Hosta* 'Halcyon' is distinguished by its medium blue-green leaf centers and wide, creamy white margins. The broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases and flat surfaces carry a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, creating a crisp bicolor effect.
In the Garden
'Blue Ivory' forms a mound-like clump reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green centers hold their color without scorching. The compact size makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings; it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small hostas. Lavender flowers appear on vertical scapes 14 to 18 inches (35.6 to 45.7 cm) tall in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
