Overview
Registered in 1985 by L. Englerth, this medium-sized hosta originated as a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Tokudama'. It is visually distinctive for its heavy-textured, cupped blue-green leaves with blue-green margins and 15 pairs of veins, forming a compact, dense mound.
In the Garden
'Blue Horizon' reaches 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and spreads to 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions or as a groundcover in partial to full shade. Its blue foliage pairs well with golden or chartreuse-leaved companions such as *Hosta* 'June' or *Carex elata* 'Aurea'. The plant is not typically used in containers due to its medium size.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
