Overview

Registered in 1999 as an open-pollinated seedling, *Hosta* 'Blaze of Glory' is a large cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with gold margins. The foliage is broadly cordate, measuring up to 11.4 inches (29.0 cm) long and 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) wide, with 12 to 13 vein pairs and a slightly rippled, greenish-yellow edge. The leaf surface is slightly shiny above, with a glaucous bloom beneath.

In the Garden

'Blaze of Glory' forms an upright, slow-growing clump reaching 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height and 31 inches (78.7 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins remain most vivid; excessive sun may scorch the leaf edges. This substantial plant pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials in woodland borders or mixed shade beds. Its large size makes it unsuitable for small containers.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
