Overview

Registered in 2008, 'Belle Vernon Pride' is a large, mound-forming hosta of seedling parentage. It is distinguished by its medium blue-green, ovate leaves with slightly rippled margins, a lightly cupped and corrugated texture, and a glaucous bloom on the underside.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature spread of 42 inches (106.7 cm) and a height of 24 inches (61.0 cm), forming a dense, moderate-growing mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its thick, disease- and insect-resistant foliage makes it a reliable specimen for borders or woodland gardens. Its late flowering period, with green scapes rising 30 to 34 inches (76.2 to 86.4 cm), extends seasonal interest.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaves offer good slug and deer resistance, though monitoring for these pests remains advisable in high-pressure areas.
