Overview

Registered in 2002, 'Baby Boomer' is a giant hosta cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Sea Prize' and *H. montana* 'Chirifu'. This cultivar is visually distinctive for its massive, upright clump of nearly round, deeply corrugated blue-green leaves with wide, pale yellow margins that display unstable streaks of light green, greenish yellow, yellow, golden yellow, and cream.

In the Garden

'Baby Boomer' forms a substantial clump reaching 66 inches (167.6 cm) in diameter and 34 inches (86.4 cm) in height, with a fast growth rate. Its large, variegated leaves and tall scapes make it suitable as a specimen plant or as a backdrop in mixed borders, where its glaucous foliage contrasts well with finer-textured perennials. Given its giant size, it is not appropriate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Plant in partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones, providing consistent moisture during the growing season. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges; this cultivar shows moderate resistance to slugs due to its heavily corrugated leaf texture.
