Overview
Registered in 2012 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Gold Standard', 'Aurora's Glow' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its medium green leaves with greenish-yellow to medium green margins that undergo multiple color changes during the growing season, leaving a characteristic "lightning" or glow effect after the first transition. The broadly ovate, flat leaves measure 7 inches (17.8 cm) long by 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, with 8 to 9 vein pairs and dull surfaces on both sides, and feature cordate bases.
In the Garden
'Aurora's Glow' forms a mound-like clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where its leaf coloration develops most reliably, and pairs well with other shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns, heucheras, and astilbes. Its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard precautions against slugs and deer are advisable in gardens where these pests are prevalent.
