Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'August Beauty' is a sport of *Hosta* 'August Moon'. It is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its dark green leaves with broad, golden yellow margins, a coloration that reverses the typical gold-center, green-edge pattern of its parent.

In the Garden

'August Beauty' reaches a mature diameter of 55 inches (139.7 cm) and a height of 25 inches (63.5 cm), forming a substantial mound. It performs best in partial to light shade, where the golden margins remain brightest without scorching. Its large, corrugated leaves provide textural contrast alongside ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials; it is not suited for containers due to its size.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
