Overview

Registered in 2012, *Hosta* 'Aries' is a sport of *H.* 'Hyacinthina' distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins and pronounced spring coloration. This small-sized cultivar forms a dense, fast-growing mound with ovate, moderately twisted and wavy leaves that are dull on both surfaces.

In the Garden

'Aries' reaches a mature spread of 36 inches (91.4 cm) and a height of 17 inches (43.2 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container cultivation. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its gold margins remain most vivid, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small hostas. The green scapes, rising 18 to 26 inches (45.7 to 66.0 cm), bear lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Aries' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
