Overview
Registered in 2002 by P. & J. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Arctic Circle' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage distinguished by its upright, pointed leaves with crisp, creamy white margins contrasting against a light green center that may show areas of yellow-green and streaks of gray-green. The ovate leaves, measuring 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) long and 5.63 inches (14.3 cm) wide, feature eight prominent vein pairs, slightly rippled margins, and a lightly corrugated, dull texture on both surfaces.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms an upright clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 29.5 inches (74.9 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. Its bold variegation provides strong contrast when planted near dark-leaved companions such as *Heuchera* 'Palace Purple' or ferns. The green scapes rise to 32 inches (81.3 cm) and bear typical lavender flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and apply controls as needed. Performs reliably in typical hosta-growing zones with adequate shade and well-drained soil.
