Overview
Registered in 2015 by A. Scheer and M. Gilligan, this medium-sized hosta arose as an open-pollinated seedling of *Hosta* 'Maya Kingsnake'. The cultivar is visually distinctive for its upright, arching habit, green leaves with gold margins, and red scapes that extend into pink buds and red stems.
In the Garden
'Hosta' Anaconda' forms a clump 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter and 14 inches (35.6 cm) tall, with a fast growth rate. Its broadly ovate, lightly wavy leaves (8 inches long, 6 inches wide) with cordate bases and greenish yellow, slightly rippled margins perform best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas. The upright, arching scapes (17 to 25 inches tall) and leaves lend an elegant stance, making this cultivar suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen among ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
